British spy, a double
He studied at Cambridge, where he joined the communistic movement. In the 30s, by his visit to Moscow, he was contacted by Russian agents. He fought in France during the war. In 1940 he joined the MI-5 and was ordered to catch up and monitor diplomatic mail of neutral states. Here he was able to collect useful information for Moscow. He was able to inform Moscow about the time and place of the invasion to Europe. The allies were trying to hide this before Stalin. After the war he left the MI-5 and went into a gallery in London. He was given the title Knight and got to be a professor of art. But he didn't cut his relations to people in MI-5. He was first suspected after Maclean and Burgess escaped to Moscow. Blunt remained in London. He was interrogated by the MI-5 for eleven times, but he couldn't be accused of anything due to his connections to the Buckingham palace. His collaboration with the Russians was proved first in 1964. Blunt confessed first after his immunity was granted in 1979. The public was informed about Blunt first in 1979 when "The climate of treason" by A.Boyle came out. He was named "the fourth man". Afterwards even M.Thatcher acknowledged that Blunt was a Soviet spy.Recommended books:
