Gehlen Reinhard

(1902-1979)

GO chief

Shortly after the war was promoted to general. Then he ran over to the Americans. Because of his inside knowledge and previous involvement he was assigned a possible leader of the German network against the East. He founded the GO in 1946 and under control of American offices, later only the CIA, began to operate in the East and began to contact the agents in USSR. But they didn't prove their position against the soviet spy invasion. In 1955 the private GO changed into the state service BND (Bundes Nachrichtendienst). Gehlen remained in charge of the service until 1969.
