Gouzenko Igor

(1922-1985)

GRU officer and defector

Cipher officer that defected in Ottawa in 1945 and pointed on some leaks in the British intelligence community. He said, that the Soviets had seven spies inside MI5, MI6 and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This number couldn't be confirmed as only five were revealed (see The Cambridge Network). He pointed fingers at lot of Russian spies inside the US, among them "an advisor to the secretary of foreign affairs", which almost sure was Alger Hiss. His testimonies also led to the disclosure of a GRU agent placed in Los Alamos, Alan Nunn May.
