American cryptograph, defector
During his studies he was considered an excellent mathematician and chess player. On a Japanese base he met Bernon Mitchell, his later defection partner. In 1955 he left the Army and had studied mathematics. In 1958 joined the NSA.He and his gay friend (Mitchell) joined the Communistic Party of the USA and had visited Cuba in 1959. They both defected in 1960. Both delivered sensitive information about the functions of NSA, even of its work against US allies. It was one of the few NSA affairs.
