Her husband, Julius, came closer with Marxism in New York and he joined the Stalinist fraction of the Communist Party. In 1943 they both were recruited by NKVD officer Yakovlev, the leader of the NY network. His wife shared his minds. Their duty was to seek for other possible workmen. They found e.g. D.Greenglass, Ethel's brother, who worked in Los Alamos. He handed over the plans of the detonation device for the A-bomb.With the network collapse majority of the important spies saved them. So it's possible, that the Rosenbergs were just a calculated loss. As a follow of the critical times and minds in the US the process was manipulated to end with the death penalty. They wanted to set an example but it led to a worse public opinion and the denial of the allies.
