Canada

Due to strong English influence the secret services became less independent. Only the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) was still active. They had good successes in the pre-war and the war times, but the Canadian and English ignored them. They biggest achievement was the relevance of the whole Russian network. It was very eased by the defection of a cryptograph from the embassy in Montreal. In the sixties the FLQ (Front for Liberation of Quebec) became active. With the help from RCMP they caused heavy defeats to the Russians. Later RCMP was accused of using of illegal procedures like surveillance and violation of privacy.
Later the intelligence part of RCMP was separated into independent CSIS in 1981. They were orientated on state security and counter action. They had hard set limits of what they can and how they can control. The first head was T.D'Arcy Finn. CSIS is closely connected with the English and FBI.
