Egypt

Secret service Mukhabarat el-Am was active before the founding of unity between Egypt and Syria and still work on after the foundation of Egypt in 1971. Their main goal was to monitor Israel and other neighbors. Later they tried to suppress any British activities. This is very unusual, when we see that lot of the staff was trained by British instructors.
The president has the responsibility for Mukhabarat el-Am and the director of the service is the director of president's office.
From 1967 till 1970 Egypt co-operated with Soviet Union, then, with Anvar Sadat, came bigger independence. Nowadays, their main objective is to monitor the terrorist movement of Islamic fundamentalists.
