Iraq

Espionage dominated the intelligence services. And they heavily supported military and civil intelligence. Both tried to overthrown the government (1959, 1973). Iraqi secret service Al Mukhabarat was founded in 1968 after the victory of the Baas party and in the mid-70s it reached its final shape. Connections with the KGB were established and the structure was later copied. After the rise of Saddam Hussein (1979) the service was aimed on elimination of opponents of their policy throughout the world. Hussein, who led the revolution in 1968, knew the risk of leaving them operating. But their successes abroad were not so good. Big success was reached in gaining materials in Europe and with the planning of the occupation of Kuwait.
The service is composed of the Department of inner security (counter espionage), Army intelligence of DoD, Police HQ.
