The service Securitate worked on the control of order in the country. It was created as a resident of KGB but later it became rather independent. Less action is known. They mainly supported Ceaucesco's business. Only Albania can equal the level of terrorization of the people.
By now the position of Securitate in the revolt against Ceaucesco isn't cleared. But it's supposed that the brutal attack against the demonstration in Temeshvar was made only to provoke the people to other actions. Later they didn't fought the revolution and the loses were caused by the bad arrangement of the upstanding groups.
